Souled Out Soul Food Cuisine

We finally came here. The service was awesome and food was really good. The ribs were very tender and good and the red beans and rice was tasty. The Mac and cheese was just ok l, catfish was good and the greens and yams felt like they were missing something….I won’t even comment on the pre packaged cornbread. Don’t even bring it out next time lol However, the location is phenomenal and the sitting near the water and ambience adds to it. Hoping this business strives and survives as they’re a much needed breathe of fresh air to the downriver community!

Updating my review: Last night my sister hosted her birthday party here. The staff was so accommodating, the food was great and it was overall awesome night! The owners.....what is not to love about them! They were professional, fun and the food was hot. If you have not been to Souled Out Soul Food you are truly missing out! Best soul food downriver. Definitely a vibe here! I'm so disappointed I did not get a picture of the food I ordered which was catfish and steak fries with their famous zesty seasoning! The catfish was lightly breaded and seasoned to perfection! I would have gotten a picture had I not immediately started eating the food. It was that good! Absolutely delicious! I also tried their soul rolls which I highly recommend! The owners are super sweet and you can tell they put pride in their craft! I love the atmosphere and let me tell you about the patio...love it!! Sitting by the water sipping my beverage was so relaxing and beautiful at the same time. I definitely want to give a shout out to the servers because they were so friendly and outgoing; great job Bonnie on selecting such wonderful people because the servers are definitely top notch! Will definitely be back, this is our new "Cheers!"

Went here for date night, we were greeted by who I assume the owners (husband and wife) super nice people! the aesthetic and layout is so beautiful, we sat in the enclosed patio which has a beautiful fireplace to give it a date night feel, in the patio there are garage doors that will open up to the outdoor patio that overlooks the river. The food!? AMAZING and we had just about 1 of everything - I ordered the ribs, which were sauced and cooked to perfection, the meat was tender, my sides were homemade Mac and cheese and candied yams and for my bf, he had an order of chicken, catfish with collard greens and also candied yams. If, we weren’t already full enough, we HAD to try the desserts, I ordered the peach cobbler and my bf had the banana pudding and BOTH and everything was AMAZING! We will back for sure.

Our food was hot and delicious. We had the pulled pork sliders, brisket, greens, sweet corn, Mac n cheese, cornbread, fried Oreos and peach cobbler. The atmosphere was like nothing else downriver. We loved the look of the place! Very moody, beautiful dark green chairs and a beautiful bar. The natural lighting from all the windows was great. They also have a patio but we opted for inside since it was hot. We will be back.

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with the warmest hospitality — the owners are truly amazing people who go above and beyond to make everyone feel like family. You can tell this place was built on love, tradition, and pride in great food. Now let’s talk about the food… WOW. Everything was delicious, but the catfish stole the show. Perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside — it was honestly the best catfish I’ve ever had. You can taste the soul in every bite. The entire menu is full of flavor and cooked to perfection. This isn’t just a meal — it’s an experience that feeds your stomach and your spirit. Highly recommend checking out Souled Out Soulfood. You’ll be back after your first visit — It has become my “Cheers”. I had my birthday party here last night and they created the most memorable experience ever.

Great service. Beautifully decorated. Simple yet delicious and satisfying food. Only issue can be parking on busy days. Cannot knock them for that. Certainly worth a little trouble. Also recommend calling ahead. We’ve tried coming twice before and they were packed. Also helps because they have limited hours.

The restaurant is a great date night experience. The patio will be very nice on a summer evening. The catfish was very good! My wife said her fried chicken was delicious. Albert Kahn designed the building for The Ford Motor Company. Mr. Kahn was given the name of Architect of Detroit for all the buildings he designed in the city. The building is west of the Historic Detroit Toledo and Ironton Railroad. The railroad was owned by Ford from 1920-1929.

Our family ordered a range of things on the menu as carryout for our first order from this new business. Between the four of us, we got the fried chicken dinner, salmon dinner, a full rack of ribs, Cajun shrimp & grits, collard greens, soul rolls, mac & cheese, and red beans & rice. We don't normally spend over $100 on carryout, but we were celebrating a birthday and wanted to try as much as we could within reason. Overall, everything was very good. We shared everything so we could all sample across the range of items ordered. While I liked everything I tried, I was surprised that the collard greens were so flavorful. I guess I expected something a little more bland and was pleasantly surprised to find them so nicely seasoned. Also, the portions were big, so we'll have plenty of leftovers for tomorrow. Souled Out is a welcome change of pace that adds an interesting option whether eating in or carrying out.
